Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer plans to use Lyle Taylor again this week

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has revealed that Lyle Taylor is likely to again feature on Tuesday evening when they host Huddersfield Town at The Valley.

What’s he said?

The striker was enjoying a prolific start to life in the Championship, scoring five goals in their opening six matches, before he suffered a severe knee injury whilst on international duty for Montserrat.

Taylor began the match on the bench on Saturday as the Addicks were defeated 1-0 at Middlesbrough, but he did come on and last the duration of the second half, which only offers an encouraging sign.

Will we see more of the same this week? Bowyer told South London News that it is somewhat likely, he said:

“He was a little bit off of it but you could see what we’ve missed.

“He fights, he competes for every ball. He puts dangerous balls into the box.

“The ball he hit got a good block from the defender, that was flying. That would have ended up in the back of the net.

“The most important thing is that he’s back. We got 45 minutes into him. We’ll try and do the same on Tuesday.”

Injuries easing?

Such news comes as a major positive to Bowyer and his side as they have suffered eight straight matches without a victory, although, their mounting injury problems haven’t aided that at all.

It’s been so bad that Joe Ledley, who only signed last week and lacks serious match fitness, was handed a start on his debut up in the north-east.

Taylor came through the game without any problems so he must surely be in line to start against the Terriers.

At times this season, West Brom’s loan winger Jonathan Leko has played as a striker to fill his void.

With new owners now in charge, January will be an interesting prospect for the club, but they’ll be hoping to not sink closer to the relegation zone in the next couple of weeks.
